The Risks and Rewards of Saying Yes to God

Ryan Lowery
Luke 1:29-38

In this passage we see 3 people or groups who said "yes" to God, despite the risks. Mary agreed to bear the Messiah, Joseph maintained his relationship with Mary, and the magi defied Herod--all moves that came with great risks, but also great rewards, as they take their place in God's plan to redeem people through Jesus the Messiah. We also face the opportunity in our life to say yes to God, also facing risks but opening the door to rewards from God, the giver of good gifts.

Joy in God's Sovereignty

Jim Leffel
Philippians 1:12-20

Challenging circumstances can make us question what God is doing--if He's truly in control, just, and/or loving. Paul though has another attitude, even as he sits in jail, seeing how God is working in his difficult circumstances--not only fulfilling his goal of sharing the gospel but taking it beyond what he imagined. When we consider and account for God's sovereignty in difficult situations, we will find joy as we see His ability to work beyond circumstance and beyond our failings and limitations, and as we embrace the idea that God is always working for our ultimate good.

Filled to Overflowing

Jim Leffel
Romans 15:13

God wants to fill us so completely that we overflow with peace and joy in abundance. Just like Paul's Roman audience, modern Christians live stress-filled lives that leave us too often feeling depleted, running on empty. The answer to feeling empty is to thirst for God. As you trust in him, he will fill you to overflowing with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Backward Wisdom of God (Part One)

Ryan Lowery
James 3:13-4:3

James says one of the qualities of a mature Christian is developing and acting out of wisdom--the ability to properly apply knowledge about God to everyday living. Wisdom produces the ability to live out the good life God intends for people, but often seems counter-intuitive to our common understanding (man's wisdom). If we trust in God's wisdom and not our own natural wisdom we will find peace, relational unity, and more benefits, while James says relying on our own wisdom will yield jealousy, selfish ambition, and other negative results. If we will trust Him, God is always ready to help us grow in His wisdom, even if we've failed in the past.

Leaving the Nest

Scott Risley
Mark 6:1-13

The disciples have spent over a year learning from the Master. Now it's time for them to go out and put into practice what they have learned. Total Help for Total Need

Gary DeLashmutt
Ephesians 2:1-10

The more we understand and appreciate what God says about our plight apart from Him, the more we appreciate the rescue He has provided through Jesus. In this passage, the Apostle Paul describes our total need, God's total help, and how to respond to His total help.
